ST. PETER, Minn. – Fifth-year senior
Shreya Ashok became the St. Olaf College's all-time leader in career hits, as the Oles exchanged shutouts with Gustavus Adolphus College, winning game one, 3-0, before dropping game two, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at Gustie Softball Field.
After entering the day two hits shy of the record held by Emily Carr '19, Ashok had one hit in game one and two in game two, passing Carr with a bunt single in the top of the fifth for the 177th hit of her career. Junior
Roxanne Ring pitched St. Olaf (20-14, 11-7 MIAC) to the win in the opener with a four-hit shutout before Maizie Anderson returned the favor with a six-hit shutout for Gustauvs (19-17, 9-9 MIAC).
Three St. Olaf pitchers limited Gustavus to two unearned runs on just seven hits for a .149 batting average (7-for-47) on the day. With the split, the Oles held onto the No. 3 spot in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) standings, one game ahead of both Macalester College and Bethel University and two games behind the College of Saint Benedict.
The Oles will visit Macalester for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday, April 27 before hosting Concordia-Moorhead for Senior Day one week later to close out the regular season.

Ring threw her third consecutive shutout by holding Gustavus to four hits and no walks while striking out five to collect her 10th victory of the season. St. Olaf put three runs on the board in the top of the first and Rode the arm of Ring the rest of the way.
Six Oles had at least one hit in the win, led by senior
Amelia Christenson, who was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and two RBI. Ring also had a hit and knocked in a run, in addition to her complete game in the circle.
St. Olaf started the game with back-to-back singles by sophomore
Regan Zak and Ashok before senior
Medora Rylee drew a walk to load the bases. With the bases still full and one out, Christenson lined a two-run single down the left-field line to score Ashok and Rylee. After a wild pitch put two more runners in scoring position, Ring reached on an error on a ground out to bring in the third run of the inning.
After Ring retired the first nine batters she faced, Gustavus started the fourth inning with a single and a hit batter, but Ring got the next three batters out to put up another zero. The Gusties recorded singles in each of the final three innings but was unable to advance any of the three runners to second.

A two-out, two-run home run by Lauren Olsen was the difference in game two, as Olsen's blast and Anderson's six-hitter gave Gustavus the split. The Oles outhit the Gusties by a 6-3 margin in the game behind two-hit performances from Ashok, junior
Madyn Singleton, and junior
Elle Brandt.
Singleton took the hard-luck loss after allowing two unearned runs on three hits with one walk and two strikeouts over the first 5.0 innings. Fifth-year senior
Jaelyn Orth struck out two of the three batters she faced in a 1-2-3 sixth inning.
St. Olaf got 11 base runners against Anderson on six hits and five walks but left all 11 runners on base. Anderson struck out eight in her 11th win of the season for the Gusties. Olsen had two of Gustavus' three hits.
St. Olaf put two runners on base in the first, second, fifth, and sixth innings, including having runners on second and third with one out in the second, but Anderson got a pair of strikeouts to get out of the jam. Olsen plated the game's only runs in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run to left with two outs after an error put a runner on earlier in the inning.
The Oles got two runners on in the fifth with two outs on Ashok's record-breaking hit and a walk to Christenson before a line out ended the inning. Singles by Singleton and Brandt put two on with one out for St. Olaf in the top of the sixth, but Anderson got the next two batters to keep the shutout intact and worked around a one-out walk in the seventh.
