NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Senior
MaKenna Beaver scored at 1:41 of overtime to give the St. Olaf College women's hockey team a 3-2 win and a non-conference sweep of Aurora University on Saturday afternoon at St. Olaf Ice Arena.
After Aurora (4-10-0) scored with 2:09 left in regulation to force overtime, St. Olaf (7-6-0) won it in the 3-on-3 extra session when Beaver drove to the net from the right side and flipped the puck in for her second goal of the season. The victory completed the Oles' sweep of the Spartans and came in St. Olaf's 11th one-goal game out of 13 this season.
Aurora opened the scoring with exactly six minutes remaining in the first period on a goal by Teagan Moffat, but St. Olaf needed just 17 seconds to get the goal back on an unassisted goal by senior
Solvei Berg-Messerole. Less than one minute later, Berg-Messerole won a faceoff to classmate
Molly Terebayza, who scored for the second day in a row to give the Oles a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.
St. Olaf maintained its 2-1 lead until the closing minutes of the third period when Emiliana Cassillo tied it for Aurora with 2:09 to go. In the overtime, senior
Emma Heath circled behind the net from left to right before leaving the puck for Beaver, who scored from close range after driving to the net.
