VanDeWalker ties season assist record, Oles get road win over Carroll

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The regionally-ranked St. Olaf College women's soccer team got two more goals from senior Emily Johnson in a 2-1 non-conference road victory over Carroll University on Wednesday evening at Schneider Stadium.

After entering the night as the leading scorer in NCAA Division III with 15 goals this season, Johnson added two more to her tally by scoring once in each half for St. Olaf (8-1-3), which held off Carroll (2-3-7) despite a late goal by the Pioneers. The Oles moved up to No. 3 in this week's United Soccer Coaches Region IX Poll.

The game was the first meeting between the two programs since 2017 and just the third ever. The two teams combined for just five shots on goal, three of which resulted in goals. The Pioneers entered the game with just nine goals scored and seven conceded in 11 games this season.

Johnson opened the scoring in the 35th minute by rifling the ball in at the near post from the left edge of the box after senior Wren VanDeWalker set Johnson up with a short corner. The strike gave Johnson at least one goal in 10 of the Oles' 12 games this season.

Early in the second half, Johnson completed her sixth multi-goal game of the season by one-timing the ball in off a cross from VanDeWalker after senior Roxanne Rundle played VanDeWalker in down the left side. VanDeWalker's two assists moved her into a tie with Cat Duffy Shaw '26 for the single-season program record that Duffy-Shaw set with nine assists last season. Johnson's 17 goals this season are the third-highest total in program history.

Carroll gave itself hope of a very-late rally when Madelyn Baker scored with 2:33 remaining, but the Pioneers could not generate another shot in the remaining time. Sophomore Charlotte Percy moved into a tie for third in program history with 18 career wins despite facing just two shots on goal.

St. Olaf will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 10 before its 1 p.m. kickoff against the College of St. Scholastica at Rolf Mellby Field.
