DAVENPORT, Fla. – The St. Olaf College baseball team opened its season with a 14-3 run-rule victory over Allegheny College on Friday afternoon at Northeast Regional Park.
In just the third game ever between the two programs, St. Olaf (1-0) broke a 3-3 tie with a seven-run fourth inning on its way to the seven-inning, run-rule victory over Allegheny (2-1). The Oles and Gators previously split a doubleheader in Florida in 2011.

Christopher Woodside all recorded two-hit games for St. Olaf, which had 11 hits and drew eight walks in the win. Lavin was 2-for-4 with a game-ending two-run home run in the seventh, Plemann went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, two RBI, and three runs scored, while Woodside and Hadley each knocked in two runs.

Brady Stutz earned the victory in his collegiate debut with 3.0 innings of shutout ball, allowing one hit and two walks with three strikeouts. Senior
Kevin Steel made the start and surrendered two runs (one earned) on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts over the first 3.0 innings before sophomore
Josiah Utsch worked an inning before turning the ball over to Stutz.
Hadley plated the first run of the game with a two-out infield hit in the bottom of the first, but the Gators got the run back in the top of the second. St. Olaf reclaimed the lead in the next half inning by scoring on a two-out, bases-loaded walk followed by an error to go up 3-1.
After Allegheny tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fourth, the Oles exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the inning. Senior
Mason Buck broke the tie with a one-out, run-scoring double. Later in the inning, Lavin brought in two runs with a single and Woodside doubled in two more.
St. Olaf added a single run in the bottom of the fifth before ending the game early with three in the seventh. Senior
Jack Pettit led off the seventh with a single before scoring on a double by Pleimann. Two batters later, Lavin drove a two-run home run to right to induce the run rule.
The Oles will face Massachusetts Institute of Technology in a doubleheader starting at 9:30 a.m. Central on Saturday, Feb. 28.
