Four wins in five for women's tennis after 6-1 victory over Saint Mary's

OWATONNA, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's tennis team improved to 4-1 in its last five matches with a 6-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) victory over Saint Mary's University on Saturday at West Hills Tennis and Fitness Center.

Senior Alexandra Berns, senior Emma Clift, and first year Dana Keesler were all victorious in both singles and doubles to guide St. Olaf (4-3, 2-2 MIAC) to its sixth consecutive win over Saint Mary's (5-3, 0-3 MIAC). The Oles won two of the three doubles matches and five of the six doubles matches in the victory.

Berns and Clift ran their undefeated record in dual matches as a pairing to 7-0 (4-0 MIAC) this season with a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while Keesler and junior Elliana Loesch got to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play with a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles. With the doubles point already decided, the Cardinals claimed a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles.

Berns, Clift, Keesler, junior Charlotte Sloane, and first year Norah Brusco accounted for St. Olaf's five singles victories, with Berns and Clift doing so in super tiebreakers at the top-two spots. Berns stayed unbeaten in dual matches (7-0, 4-0 MIAC) with a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4) win at No. 1 singles, while Clift took her match at No. 2 singles by a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) margin.

Brusco got her first MIAC singles win by dropping just two games at No. 6 singles, Keesler lost just three at No. 4 singles, and Sloane added a straight-set victory of her own at No. 5 singles.

Next up for St. Olaf is a MIAC match against St. Catherine at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 21 at the University of Minnesota's Baseline Tennis Center.
