ROCHESTER, Minn. – The St. Olaf College softball team rebounded from a 7-4 loss to UW-Platteville to start the day with a 10-3 victory over Buena Vista University on Saturday at Rochester Regional Stadium & Bubble.
In the first game of the day, UW-Platteville (3-1) scored three times in the top of the seventh to break a 4-4 tie and snap a three-game winning streak for St. Olaf (4-2) in the first meeting between the two programs since 2002. Later, the Oles rallied from an early 3-1 deficit to score the final nine runs of the game in the win over Buena Vista (0-1).
Next up for St. Olaf is an eight-game trip to Texas in mid-March, starting with a twin bill at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Monday, March 16 at 3 p.m.

After falling behind 4-0, St. Olaf scored four unanswered runs to tie the game after six innings, but UW-Platteville answered the Oles' three-run bottom of the sixth with a three-run top of the seventh to claim the win. In a game where St. Olaf was limited to four hits, first year
Joy Jung hit her first collegiate home run, a three-run shot, to tie the game in the sixth.
Jung accounted for two of the Oles' four hits in the loss, going 2-for-3 with the three-run home run. First year
Hannah Yaeger was 1-for-2 with a double, a run scored, and one RBI, while junior
Kyra Narum had the team's other hit.
The Pioneers scored once in the first, once in the second, and twice in the fourth to open up a 4-0 lead before Yaeger got St. Olaf on the board with a one-out double in the bottom of the fourth that plated senior
Elle Brandt, who drew a walk to start the inning.
With the Oles down 4-1 in the sixth, junior
Eva Hokanson coaxed a one-out walk and Yaeger was hit by a pitch to put two on for Jung, who homered to left center to tie the game. UW-Platteville broke the tie with three runs in the next half inning before retiring St. Olaf in order to end the game.

Buena Vista scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead, but St. Olaf put together three-run innings of its own in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings to defeat the Beavers. The Oles recorded a season-high 13 hits, led by three-hit performances from Hokanson and junior
Rylan Nakamura.
Nakamura had the second three-hit game of her career, going 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored, and three RBI, while Hokanson was 3-for-5 with one RBI. First year
Izzy Barrera was 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, and two runs scored, while first year
Addie Hock was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, one run scored, and two RBI.
After taking over in the first inning, senior
Roxanne Ring held Buena Vista to one hit over 7.0 shutout innings with three walks and six strikeouts to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Nakamura created the first run of the game in the top of the first by doubling with one out before scoring on a pair of wild pitches. The first five batters of the game for the Beavers all reached base in their three-run inning.
Still down 3-1, St. Olaf took the lead on a bases-clearing double by Nakamura in the top of the fourth to grab a 4-3 lead. Barrera and Hock singled on either side of a walk to first year
Sophia Grace Aquino to fill the bases for Nakamura.
In the top of the fifth, junior
Jill Arp drew a leadoff walk before Barrera doubled to put two runners in scoring position for Aquino, who dropped down a bunt single to score one run. Hock followed with a two-run double to push the Oles' lead to 7-3. St. Olaf added three more runs in the seventh after the first two batters of the frame were retired, as Hokanson doubled in a run before Jung singled in two more.
