NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's tennis team absorbed a 7-0 loss to No. 26-ranked Bethel University in its first home outdoor match of the spring on Monday afternoon at Carlson Courts.
Nationally-ranked Bethel (17-1, 7-1 MIAC) lost a combined five games in doubles and won all six singles matches in straight sets to defeat St. Olaf (9-8, 2-7 MIAC) and remain in the mix for a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) regular-season title. The Royals were ranked No. 26 in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national poll.
Bethel took the doubles point with 6-2, 6-3, and 6-0 wins at the three spots in the lineup. The Royals went on to win all 12 sets in singles, with the closest and longest match of the day coming at No. 6 singles. After dropping the first set, Brusco was on serve down 5-4 in the second set before being broken to end the match.
The Oles will close out their season with a trip to Hamline University in St. Paul on Sunday, April 26 for an 11 a.m. start.
