NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's soccer team got a hat trick from senior
Emily Johnson in a 5-1 non-conference victory over the University of Dubuque on Sunday afternoon at Rolf Mellby Field.
Johnson completed a five-goal week with the second hat trick of her career to propel St. Olaf (2-0-1) past Dubuque (1-1-1), which won the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) regular-season title last season, in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Johnson's other hat trick came in a 6-1 win over UW-Stevens Point on Sept. 10, 2025.
Johnson scored twice in the first half and again early in the second to complete her hat trick, which moved the senior into a tie with Hall of Famer Kelsey Watt '07 for third in recorded program history with 34 career goals. The six-point afternoon saw Johnson tie Carolyn Detjen '03 for third in recorded program history with 77 career points.

Lillian Miller tallied the other goals for St. Olaf, which held a 4-0 lead after Johnson's third goal in the 53rd minute before the Spartans scored back-to-back goals later in the half after a number of substitutions to make it a two-goal game.
Johnson wasted little time in opening the scoring by curling a shot inside the right post in the sixth minute after being played in behind on a through ball by senior
Wren VanDeWalker. The score remained 1-0 until the 33rd minute when the Dubuque goalie got hands on Johnson's shot from the top of the box but could not keep it out, giving the Oles a 2-0 halftime lead after St. Olaf outshot Dubuque by a 17-1 margin.
Anderson extended the Oles' advantage to 3-0 just over three minutes into the second half by putting in a rebound after her initial shot on a breakaway was saved after Johnson played in Anderson. Johnson finished off her hat trick a little over five minutes later in the 53rd minute, dribbling around the goalkeeper to slot the ball home after Rediger's long ball put Johnson in behind Dubuque's defense again.
The Spartans got a pair of goals from Rylie Mensik in the space of less than three minutes to make it a 4-2 game with over 15 minutes to play, but Miller chipped Dubuque's goalkeeper from the right side of the box for her first collegiate goal in the 77th minute to end any thought of a comeback for the visitors.
St. Olaf held a 27-6 advantage in shots in the game, including a 16-4 cushion in shots on goal, as Samantha Jurgens made 11 saves for the Spartans. Senior
Clara Luger had two saves in her second win in a row for the Oles.
Next up for St. Olaf is a trip to Luther College for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
