Doug Nordmeyer

Doug Nordmeyer is in his sixth season as the head coach of the St. Olaf men's and women's alpine skiing teams in 2023-24.

Over his six seasons as St. Olaf’s head coach, Nordmeyer has led the Oles to top-12 finishes at the U.S. Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championships in both genders in each season and coached student-athletes who produced 10 All-America performances (five men, five women). He has also coached 29 USCSA Scholar All-Americans during his time on the Hill.
  
Since coming to St. Olaf prior to the 2018-19 season, Nordmeyer has guided the men’s team to top-eight finishes at the USCSA National Championships in all five seasons of the event (canceled in 2020-21), including fourth-place finishes in both 2019-20 and 2022-23. He also directed the women’s team to three top-five finishes over that span, including a third-place finish in 2018-19 and a fourth-place finish in 2023-24.
 
Over the last five editions of the USCSA National Championships, the St. Olaf men’s team placed finished in the top 10 in a team event 11 times, while the women did so nine times. The Oles were the national runner-up in the men’s dual slalom in 2019 and produced three third-place finishes in women’s team events under Nordmeyer’s direction.
 
In tandem with the St. Olaf men’s and women’s Nordic skiing teams, the Oles finished in the top three in the USCSA President’s Award standings in both genders in each of the five seasons of the competition during Nordmeyer’s time at St. Olaf, including winning the women’s President’s Award in each of the last three seasons.

A Level 400 U.S. Ski & Snowboard (USSS) Coach, USSS Clinician and Skills Quest evaluator, Nordmeyer first started coaching at Buck Hill Ski Area in Burnsville, Minnesota in 1973. Recently, Nordmeyer served as head coach of the Lakeville North High School alpine ski program from 2013-18. He lead the Panthers to five conference championships and one Section 6 championship with 11 student-athletes earning all-state honors during that time.

Nordmeyer has also coached for the Afton Ski Club since 2013. There, he supports athlete development as a technical coach, including slalom and giant slalom for all competitive age groups.

During his military career, Nordmeyer competed and coached on the United States Armed Forces alpine team, representing the United States Navy in five World Championships (CISM) in Europe and North America. He also has been honored to work as a field of play course official at both the Winter Olympics in Whistler, British Columbia and Snow Basin, Utah. He attended the University of Wyoming and competed on both the Coors and World Pro Skiing tours. He competes locally with Ski Challenge and NASTAR.
