ST. PETER, Minn. - The St. Olaf volleyball team rallied to force a fifth set, but host Gustavus Adolphus College defeated the Oles 15-8 in the decisive frame on Wednesday night at Gus Young Court to complete a 25-18, 23-25, 25-17, 27-25, 15-8 victory.
Abby Carpenter had 14 kills and
Maggie Prunty eight for St. Olaf (7-11, 1-4 MIAC) in the loss. The Gusties (8-10, 3-2 MIAC) jumped to a 16-8 lead in the fourth set before the Oles scored 16 of the next 22 to take a 24-21 advantage. Gustavus came back to tie the set at 25-25 before a kill by Prunty, Tayler Gorder and an ace by Gorder to force the fifth.
Gustavus, which was led by Alyssa Taylor's 20 kills and 17 from Janessa Jahnke, never trailed in the final set.
St. Olaf has dropped five straight. The Oles will look to rebound in the Elmhurst Invitational this weekend in Elmhurst, Ill.
