Ben Figini had 20 points and
Justin Pahl's free throw with 2.7 seconds left lifted St. Olaf to a 70-69 men's basketball win over No. 7 UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday night at Skoglund Center.
Figini went 9-for-13 from the field and led St. Olaf (2-0, 0-0 MIAC) in rebounds with six. Pahl added 15 points while
Sterling Nielsen had 12 and seven assists in the victory. Â
The Pointers (1-1) were led by Joe Ritchay with 20 points and Stephen Pelkofer with 19.
Ritchay made one of two free throws to tie the game 69-69 with 8.7 seconds remaining. On the ensuing possession, Pahl was fouled with 2.7 seconds left. Ritchay had a 3-point attempt at the buzzer from 30 feet miss.
UW-Stevens Point led by as many as 12 in the first half and had a 40-35 advantage at the break. Figini ignited an 8-0 run with four straight field goals to open the second half.
Each team shot well. The Oles were 15-of-24 in the second half and at a 60 percent clip for the game. The Pointers were 16-of-28 in the first half and shot 51 percent overall.
St. Olaf will head to Washington next Friday to take on Pacific Lutheran University in another non-conference matchup. Â
