Gutierrez nets career-high in OT win vs. Macalester

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Lauren Gutierrez scored a career-high 19 points and the Oles held Macalester to just four overtime points as the St. Olaf women's basketball team knocked off the Scots 64-54 in OT Wednesday evening at Skoglund Center.

Gutierrez had not scored in double figures in her career until tonight and entered Wednesday averaging 3.9 points per game this season. She scored nine of her 19 points in overtime and was 5-for-7 from the floor, 3-for-4 from beyond the arc and 6-for-8 from the free throw line.

St. Olaf (8-10, 5-6 MIAC) trailed by as many as seven points in the second half but battled back to take the lead 37-36 with 13:17 to go following buckets on four consecutive possessions. The Oles led by six points with 10:55 to play but Macalester (3-15, 0-11 MIAC) chipped away and eventually tied the game with a three by Erin Murray with 34 seconds to play.

In overtime, St. Olaf held the Scots to 2-of-7 from the floor while forcing four turnovers. The Oles went 3-for-3 from the floor in the extra session while sinking 7-of-11 free throws.

Betsey Daly had a double-double for the second straight game for St. Olaf, scoring 13 points and grabbing 14 boards, while Nikki Frogner also chipped in 13 points. Woo Bandel matched a season-high with seven assists.

St. Olaf will be on the road for three straight games beginning Saturday at Carleton. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
