NORTHFIELD, Minn.- St. Olaf made just five field goals in the second half and Carleton College used an 11-0 run over a 3:55 stretch late in the final 20 minutes as the Knights knocked off the Oles 51-42 in women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at West Gym.
St. Olaf (8-11, 5-7 MIAC) shot 23.8 percent (5-for-21) after halftime while scoring 16 points. Carleton (7-12, 5-7 MIAC) made eight three-pointers and won despite 22 turnovers.
With 7:31 to play in the final half, the Oles took a 37-36 lead on a layup by
Nikki Frogner. The Knights made a free throw with 6:55 to play, starting a run of 11 consecutive points. Gabbi Stienstra scored 15 points and Skylar Tsutsui added 13 for Carleton. St. Olaf was led by
Lauren Gutierrez with nine points.
The Oles held a 19-13 advantage in points off turnovers but were outscored 14-8 by the Carleton bench, including 6-0 in the second half.
St. Olaf will play at the College of Saint Benedict on Wednesday in St. Joseph, Minn. beginning at 7 p.m.
