Daly nets 17 as Oles fall late to Gustavus

NORTHFIELD, Minn.- Gustavus Adolphus used an 11-0 run midway through the second half to come back and beat the St. Olaf women's basketball team 64-62 Saturday afternoon at Skoglund Center.

With 12:33 to play in the second half, St. Olaf (4-7, 1-3 MIAC) led 48-38 but Gustavus (9-2, 3-1 MIAC) grabbed its first lead of day with the 11-0 run. The game went back and forth from that point before the Gusties grabbed a 62-61 with 39 seconds to play, a lead they would not relinquish. The Oles had two free throw attempts to tie the game with five seconds to play but were unable to convert.

St. Olaf led by as many as 11 points with 1:20 to play in the first half and by as many as 10 with 14:01 to play in the second half. Gustavus held a 16-4 advantage in second-chance points and 30-24 in bench points, including 17-9 in the second half.

Betsey Daly scored a game-high 17 points, her sixth double-digit scoring output of the season, and added seven rebounds. Nikki Frogner, who missed the last 13-plus months with a knee injury, returned to action by scoring 13 points in 14 minutes. Woo Bandel dished out a season-high seven assists.

The Gusties were led by Kelsey Carpenter with 15 points.

The Oles return to action Wednesday, January 7 when they host St. Mary's at 7 p.m.
