COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - Sam Sura rushed for 181 yards and four touchdowns as No. 10 Saint John's University raced to a 21-0 first quarter lead on the way to a 49-7 MIAC football victory over St. Olaf on Saturday afternoon at Clemens Stadium.
J.J. Strnad rushed for 87 yards on 16 carries to pace the Oles, who moved the football, in the loss. St. Olaf (2-8, 1-7) picked up 20 first downs and collected 321 yards of offense in the loss. But the Oles were just 1-for-3 in the red zone and 5-of-16 on third down.
SJU was a mere 2-for-8 on third down, but had big plays. The Johnnies (9-1, 7-1 MIAC) had receiving touchdowns from Josh Bungum and Nick Simon, an 83-yard TD run by Sura and a Bungum punt return for a touchdown.
The St. Olaf defense was led by
Seamus Walsh who had seven tackles, including one for a loss. Walsh also accounted for the Oles' only score of the afternoon, a 14-yard TD pass to
Tristan Voegeli with 8:36 left in the game.
