Riley Aeikens' 3-point attempt at the buzzer hit front rim as No. 9 UW-Stevens Point held off a come-from-behind effort from No. 15 St. Olaf 68-65 in a men's basketball game at Quant Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.
St. Olaf (1-1), which trailed by as many as 15, cut the lead to one on a
Justin Pahl 3-pointer with 1:57 to play. The Pointers' Stephen Pelkofer hit a jumper on the ensuing possession before the teams traded missed opportunities.
Pahl had 15 points and three assists while Aeikens had 12 points in the loss for the Oles. Ethan Bublitz had a team-high 20 points and Sean McGann 19 points and 10 rebounds for UW-Stevens Point.
The Pointers led 41-28 at the half after going 7-for-12 from long range. St. Olaf was 0-for-2 from three in the first half and 3-of-6 in the second half.
