WINONA, Minn. - The St. Olaf softball team split games against Saint Mary's University on Friday afternoon.
Game 1: St. Olaf 1, Saint Mary's 3Ashley Betzold broke Danielle Collins' bid for a shutout with a three-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game for Saint Mary's (11-11, 5-5 MIAC).Pitching was very strong over the first five innings for both teams as there were only six hits total between the Oles and Cardinals. Â
Jessica Bentley broke the 0-0 tie with a solo homer in the top of the sixth inning to give St. Olaf (8-18, 3-5 MIAC) the advantage going into the final inning.
Betzold also pitched a complete game for the Cardinals, allowing only one run off of four hits. Â Collins allowed eight hits with two strikeouts in the loss.
Game 2: St. Olaf 4, Saint Mary's 1Brooke Paradise homered in the fifth inning to give the Oles a 4-1 lead over the Cardinals, and
Alex Lopez refused to give up a run over the final four innings to lead St. Olaf to a win in game two.
Both teams scored a run in the third inning. Â
Woo Bandel drove in Paradise with a double, then Alex Raske scored for Saint Mary's to tie the game 1-1. Â Paradise drove in
Jessica Bentley and
Becca Walz with her game winning three-run homer.
Lopez only allowed one run on eight hits in her complete game for St. Olaf improving her record to 2-9. Â Katie Homan was given the loss for Saint Mary's after allowing three earned runs off of six hits.
