Jorgen Salveson caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from
Nate Penz with 2:03 left to lead St. Olaf to a 16-13 non-conference football win over Northwestern on Saturday at Manitou Field.
Three plays prior to the score St. Olaf had a field goal attempt blocked, recovered by Northwestern, which then fumbled the return. The Salveson TD grab was the Oles' second touchdown off of a Northwestern turnover.
Seamus Walsh had the Oles' first score, a 23-yard interception return for a touchdown midway through the second quarter.
Penz finished 25-of-33 for 168 yards while rushing for 21 yards.
Troy Peterson had a team-best five receptions for 30 yards while Salveson had four for 28.
J.J. Strnad rushed for 65 yards on 12 carries to lead the Ole rushing game.
Zac Cash rushed for 69 yards on 15 carries to pace Northwestern, who raced to a 13-0 lead. Quarterback Grant Schoen was 15-for-29 for 125 yards and a rushing touchdown.
St. Olaf held an edge in total yards (263-258) and first downs (17-16).
With the win, St. Olaf snapped a three-game non-conference losing streak. The Oles play at Luther College next week at 1 p.m.
