PhotosNORTHFIELD, Minn. - Alex Schmitt had 19 points and Joe Risinger 17 as visiting Saint John's University built an 18-point lead and held off a late charge from St. Olaf in a 81-72 MIAC men's basketball win on Saturday afternoon at Skoglund Center.
Austin Majeskie single-handedly got the Oles back into the game with a 14-point burst in the final six-plus minutes. Majeskie's second three-pointer brought the Oles within eight with 3:45 left in regulation and his third made it 73-66 with 2:37 left. Majeskie finished with 16 points in 13 minutes while the Oles were led by
Ben Figini's 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting.
Patrick Strom and Tyler Weiss added 15 and 13 points for the Johnnies (13-3, 8-3 MIAC), who had only eight turnovers and shot 52.7 percent from the field. The Oles shot 55.1 percent from the floor, but had 16 turnovers to go with 22 assists.
Justin Pahl had a team-best six assists for the Oles (9-7, 7-4 MIAC) while Mitchell Kuck had seven for SJU.Â
