Stuckmayer homers thrice as Oles split wild doubleheader with Cobbers

MOORHEAD, Minn. - Sam Stuckmayer homered three times as St. Olaf split a wild MIAC baseball doubleheader with Concordia-Moorhead on Sunday, losing the opener 14-13 in eight innings before using an 11-run fifth inning on the way to a 12-11 win over the host Cobbers in the second game.

Game One: Concordia 14, St. Olaf 13 (8 inn.)
Stuckmayer homered twice and Kap Davis was 5-for-5 as St. Olaf carried a 12-0 lead to the bottom of the sixth, but Concordia rallied back and tied the game at 13-13 on a grand slam with two outs in the seventh inning. The Cobbers loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth and won on a walk-off free pass to secure the win.

Stuckmayer was 3-for-5 with seven RBI while Joe Keiski (3-for-4) and Tim Maus (3-for-5) had three hits as well. The Oles had 16 hits in the loss.

Concordia's Phil Kuball hit the game-tying homer in the seventh and finished 2-for-5 with two runs. Tim Carlson also homered.

St. Olaf starter Nate Gelle cruised into the sixth with a no-hit shutout, but surrendered six runs on three hits, a hit-by-pitch and two walks in the sixth.

Game Two: St. Olaf 12, Concordia 11
Stuckmayer and Nate Bauer's each hit grand slams to cap an 11-run rally in the fifth inning as St. Olaf erased a 5-1 deficit and held off the Cobbers to get a split. Davis also homered for the Oles while Turner Sturm homered twice and Tim Carlson once for Concordia.

Bauer walked three times as the Oles drew 10 bases on balls and had 11 hits in the victory, which snapped a five-game skid. Concordia had 12 hits but St. Olaf pitching allowed only two walks.

Davis, Maus and Adam Alexander were each 2-for-4.

Chad Johnson, Carlson, Jordan Domine, Storm and Alex Sandal each had two hits for the Cobbers.

Kade Cronin picked up the win, holding Concordia to a run on three hits over the final two innings.
