Lauren Rewers had 15 kills and
Abby Slack 15 digs as St. Olaf outlasted Bethany Lutheran College in four sets -- 29-27, 25-14, 19-25 and 32-30 -- on Monday night.
St. Olaf (7-3) had 35 set assists from
Renata Erickson while Megan Rutt had 13 kills to lead BLC.
The Oles were plagued by 11 errors in the first set and nine in the decisive fourth, but managed to win each. The Oles trailed 23-22 in the opener before a Grimes kill and Slack ace. St. Olaf trailed later in the set, 27-26, but sealed it with a Rewers kill,
Sophie Schwartz ace and BLC error.
In the decisive fourth, St. Olaf led by as many as seven before the Vikings (1-9) used a 7-1 run to get even. The teams traded the lead back-and-forth, as there were 13 ties the rest of the way, before St. Olaf scored three of the last four.
The Oles open MIAC play on Wednesday at Augsburg College.
