NORTHFIELD, Minn. - St. Olaf (7-5-1, 5-1-1 MIAC) and Carleton (5-4-3, 1-3-3 MIAC) competed through double overtime to a 2-2 tie Tuesday evening in a MIACÂ women's soccer matchup.
The Oles got off to a fast start when
Sarah Fisco slipped a pass by Carleton defenders right to
Abby Stets. Stets had only the goalie to beat and she capitalized on the opportunity to put the Oles up 1-0 less than four minutes into the match.
The Knights struck back in the second period as Libby Franchot took a shot into the upper left hand corner of the Ole goal to tie it up. Kaela Mali broke the tie when she launched a corner kick that curved untouched into the goal to put Carlton up 2-1.
Nearing the end of regulation, the Oles managed to even the score with a
Briana Linnerooth goal 88:41 into the match.
With neither team scoring in either overtime period, the match ended as the first tie of the year for the Ole women. This is the first time since 2002 that a women's soccer game between St. Olaf and Carleton has ended in a tie.
Next up for the Oles is a home match against Concordia College on Saturday.
