Jovan Carter was on for an assist and the game winning goal as the St. Olaf men's soccer team defeated Bethany Lutheran by a score of 3-1 on Thursday afternoon at Rolf Melby Field.
Carter passed to
Olaf Morkeberg in the box for the match's first goal in the seventh minute, and followed with an unassisted goal in the 32nd to give the Oles a 2-0 lead. The Vikings' Meles Abraha slipped a ball past
Randall Rude with less than two minutes remaining in the first half to bring Bethany Lutheran within one goal.
Carlos Torres tallied the insurance goal in the 69th minute on a lead pass from
Lucas Gaulmin to beat Viking keeper Trenton Krueger for the third time on the afternoon.
Rude made three saves on the four shots he faced, while Krueger saved nine of the total 12 shots on goal. The Oles had advantages in corners (6-2) and total shots (21-5).
St. Olaf plays next away against the University of St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
