Oles rally, but UST prevails in four in MIAC semifinal

ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Olaf rallied for a 28-26 victory in the third set and scored six straight to get within 24-23 in the fourth, but St. Thomas prevailed 25-23 to defeat the upset-minded Oles in the semifinal round of the MIAC Volleyball Playoffs on Thursday night at Schoenecker Arena.

Lauren Rewers had 15 kills while Megan Grimes and Summer Reid had 14 each for St. Olaf (22-11), which reached the semifinal by virtue of Tuesday's four-set win over Bethel.

The 17th-ranked Tommies (25-5) were led by Madie Kroehler's 13 kills.

The Oles trailed 22-18 in the third set before a 6-2 run tied the set at 24-24. St. Olaf then scored four of the next six points to force a fourth set.

The Tommies raced to leads of 14-7 and 19-12 in the fourth. St. Olaf, down 24-17, scored six straight to get within a point. UST secured the win with a Kroehler kill.
