NORTHFIELD, Minn. - St. Olaf guard
Matthew Stroud's three-point attempt at the buzzer rimmed out as Augsburg College defeated the host Oles 69-66 in a MIAC men's basketball game at Skoglund Center on Saturday to send the Auggies to the MIAC Playoffs.
St. Olaf had four in double figures in the loss, led by
Austin Majeskie's 14 points.
Robert Tobroxen and
Nate Albers had 11 points each, while
Austin Korba had 10. Stroud had seven points.
Augsburg used a furious assault from three-point range, going 13-for-23. Richie Perea was 4-for-4 and Chuckie Smith 3-for-3 from long range. Perea had a game-best 16 points to go with nine assists with only one turnover for the Auggies (12-13, 10-10 MIAC), who emerged as the final MIAC playoff team with the victory. St. Olaf, Augsburg and Concordia entered the day tied at 9-10. The Cobbers lost at home on Saturday to first place St. Thomas.
Nick Sabatke added 14 points off the bench for the Auggies, while Collin Olmsheid had 14. Smith finished with 11.
St. Olaf finished the 2016-17 season 11-14 and 9-11 in MIAC play.
