DUBUQUE, Iowa - St. Olaf swept 19th-ranked Cornell 25-23, 25-15 and 25-23 to cap a first night split, after falling to Loras in four sets in the opener on Friday evening at Loras College's Lillis Court.
The Oles' win over No. 19 Cornell was the program's first over a ranked opponent since Sept. 17, 2011 - a three-set win over UW-Platteville.
The Oles (5-1) hung tough with undefeated Dubuque (7-0) in the opener, winning the opening set 25-20, before falling 25-21, 25-19, 25-21.
Lauren Rewers had a season-best 23 kills in the loss, hitting .326. The Oles had 52 set assists from
Lexi Wall and a team-best 22 digs from
Haley Langeslag. The Oles battled from a three-point deficit to tie the fourth set at 21-21, but Dubuque rallied for the four final points.
In the three-set sweep of Cornell, Rewers had 12 kills and
Summer Reid 10. Wall had 33 set assists and
Haley Langeslag had a team-best 18 digs. Diamond Boyd had a match-high 15 kills to pace Cornell.
