MOORHEAD, Minn. – One goal in each half sent Concordia College (Minn.) to a 2-0 victory over the St. Olaf College men's soccer team in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) matchup on Saturday at Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex.
An Aronah Mukhtar penalty kick with 16 seconds remaining in the first half proved to be the only goal Concordia (5-8-0, 1-6-0 MIAC) would need, as Jackson Carr made five saves to shut out St. Olaf (3-10-0, 2-6-0 MIAC). Nate Weaver added an 86th-minute insurance goal for the Cobbers.
The Oles outshot the Cobbers by a 12-5 margin in the game and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks, but could not find a way past Carr, who stopped all five of St. Olaf's shots on goal. Junior
Keith Loukas and sophomore
Will Douglas had two shots on goal apiece for the Oles.
With time winding down in the first half, Concordia (Minn.) was awarded a penalty kick and Mukhtar converted from the spot to give the Cobbers a halftime lead on just their second shot of the half.
The score remained 1-0 until Noah Gjesdahl set up Weaver's late insurance tally with 4:49 remaining in the game. Senior
Ben Westermeyer made two saves in the loss for the Oles.
St. Olaf continues a three-game road swing with a trip to Whitewater, Wis. to face UW-Whitewater on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 3 p.m.
