Box Score 2 ST. PETER, Minn. – Members of the St. Olaf College men's tennis team competed at the 2018 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships and the Midwest Open this past weekend at Gustavus Adolphus College.
Four Oles competed in the singles draw of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. Senior
Christopher Prokosch won his first-round match 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 over Hamline's Nazeer Robinson before falling to the No. 2 seed Patrick Whaling of Gustavus in the second round 6-1, 6-0. Whaling went on to advance all the way to the semifinals.
Sophomore
Spencer Wick, senior
Gus Fedje-Johnston and senior
Corey Loken each lost in straight sets in their opening-round matches.
In doubles, Wick and Prokosch posted an 8-4 first-round victory over Cornell's Tom Greene/Drew Arnold before bowing out to No. 10-seeded Aaron Goodman/Xander Zuczek of Carleton by an 8-2 score. Loken and Fedje-Johnston were defeated 8-3 by John Kykyforuk/Fordy Leipold of Carthage.
First-years

Tim Roback and
Ethan Bruha, as well as junior
Kevin Kalkus, played in the Midwest Open in singles, with Klagge, Bruha and Kalkus posting victories. After advancing via withdrawal, Klagge defeated Jake Peters of Concordia (Minn.) 6-2, 6-2 before dropping a 6-2, 6-4 match to Ben Hediger of Coe.
Bruha won his first match 6-2, 6-1 against Wartburg's Nate Kolz before being edged 7-6, 7-6 by Alex Hamann of Macalester. Kalkus advanced to the second round with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Caleb Quernemoen of Northwestern (Minn.) but went down 6-3, 6-4 to Nathan Meskell of Coe. Following a first-round bye, Roback fell 6-2, 6-0 to Macalester's Alex Poland.
In the Midwest Open doubles draw, Klagge and Kalkus suffered an 8-1 loss to Jared Saue/Carter Steffes of Concordia (Minn.), while Bruha and Roback lost 8-5 to UW-La Crosse's Sam Diedrich/Josh Williams.
St. Olaf hosts its annual Alumni Match on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 10:30 a.m.
