NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Emmanuel Egbujor scored in the 11th and 12
th minute of play, followed by a goal from Daniel Hedstrom in the 29
th minute as Augsburg University took down the St. Olaf College men's soccer team, 3-0, in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Saturday afternoon.
At halftime, St. Olaf honored seniors:
Alexis Legigand,
Will Reichert,
Ahmed Noman,
Danny Zalk,
Jovan Carter and
Ben Westermeyer in their last game at Rolf Mellby Field.
Egbujor got the rebound off of his own shot and put the ball in the back of the net, then found the net again just a minute later with a breakaway from the St. Olaf (5-13-0, 2-8-0 MIAC) defense down the left side of the field to give Augsburg (11-3-2, 6-2-2 MIAC) a 2-0 lead. Hedstrom extended the lead after scoring off a free kick outside of the box, accounting for the final margin of the game.
The Oles had early chances in the first half after sophomore
Thierno Gueye posted three shots on goal in the first five minutes of the game. Sophomore
Farid Sani shot just wide of the goal in the 34
th minute, followed by two shots on goal from Gueye in the last seven minutes of the first half as St. Olaf was unable to convert.
Despite holding the Auggies scoreless in the second half, the Oles were unable to find the back of the net. In the 83
rd minute, first year
Kieran Mullen had a chance to send it in the net after a crossed ball from the right side, but sent it just high of the goal. St. Olaf posted two more late shots in the second half from Gueye and sophomore
Josh King-Nobles.
The Oles posted 21 shots in the game, including 11 on goal while the Auggies recorded 17 shots and 12 on goal. Gueye registered 10 shots in the game including five on goal, Sani added four shots and one on goal and sophomore
Olaf Morkeberg added two shots, both on goal. Westermeyer posted nine saves in the game.
The St. Olaf men's soccer team ends its seasons with an overall record of 5-13-0 and 2-8-0 in conference.
