Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's hockey holds off Hamline, 3-2

BLAINE, Minn. – Goals from Kyle Rimbach, Luke Ranallo and Mitch Dolter lifted the St. Olaf College men's hockey team to a 3-2 victory over Hamline University on the final day of the 2018 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Hockey Showcase on Sunday afternoon at Schwan Super Rink.

In a game that saw St. Olaf (1-1) and Hamline (0-2) combine to go 0-for-12 on the power play, the Oles got even-strength goals from Rimbach, Ranallo and Dolter over the first two periods and held off the Pipers in the third to claim the one-goal win. The victory was St. Olaf's first in the last 10 meetings with Hamline dating back to Jan. 18, 2014.

After the Pipers struck first through Mitch Hall at 5:46 of the first period, Rimbach sent the teams to the locker room tied at 1-1 by scoring with 6.8 seconds left in the opening period. Tuukka Totro and Jesse Lawman earned assists on Rimbach's fifth-career goal, with Lawman's helper being the sophomore's first-career point.

Ranallo put the Oles on top, 2-1, just 1:34 into the second period, burying a slapshot from the dot off a feed from first-year Tyler Uravage, as Uravage collected his first-collegiate point. Less than a minute later, Dolter scored his first-career goal off assists from Roshen Jaswal and Sawyer Jacobson to extend St. Olaf's lead to 3-1.

Hamline halved the St. Olaf lead at 12:09 of the second on a Bailey Martin goal, but the Oles held on over the remainder of the game to secure their first win of the young season. Junior Noah Parker made 11 of 23 saves in the third period to earn the second victory of his Ole career.

Sam Nelson made 28 saves, including 11 each in the first and third periods, for the Pipers in the loss. Hamline pulled Nelson for the final 1:10 of the game, managing two shots on goal in that span, but Parker saved them both to preserve the win.

St. Olaf travels to Gustavus on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. for its MIAC opener.
