Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s soccer falls in overtime to Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. – In the 97th minute of play, Macalester's Robert Anigbogu knocked in a pass from Logan Harper to account for the final margin, 2-1, over the St. Olaf College men's soccer team in overtime in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) contest Saturday evening at Macalester Stadium.

After early goals in the second half by both teams, the game was forced to overtime after a scoreless final 32 minutes of regulation play. Seven minutes into overtime, Macalester (7-2-2, 4-0-1 MIAC) brought the ball down the left side of the field and sent it inside the box where Anigbogu was able to make a play among traffic to take the lead and seal the victory over St. Olaf (3-8-0, 2-4-0 MIAC).

After Macalester broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute, St. Olaf responded less than six minutes later with a goal from junior Keith Loukas to tie the score at 1-1. Sophomore Will Douglas sent the ball into the middle of the box to Loukas, who headed it into the top-left corner of the goal, after Macalester cleared the ball from a corner kick. Loukas recorded his first-career goal, while Douglas tallied his second assist of the season.

Sophomore Thierno Gueye registered six shots in the game and two shots on goal, while Loukas, Douglas and junior Pato Cortina each collected a shot on goal. Senior Ben Westermeyer recorded three saves in the contest, including a save in the 42nd minute to keep St. Olaf even with the Scots heading into the second half.

Gueye posted two of his six shots in the first 10 minutes of the second half, but a save from Colten Wenig kept St. Olaf off the board. The Oles had an opportunity to score in the 79th minute with back-to-back corner kicks from Douglas, but were unable to convert.

St. Olaf is back to action Wednesday, October 10 against Carleton in a MIAC matchup at Rolf Mellby Field at 4 p.m.
