Women's swimming and diving edged by Gustavus Adolphus

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's swimming and diving team posted 10 first-place finishes, but was downed by Gustavus Adolphus, 158-140, in a dual at Skoglund Center Natatorium Saturday afternoon.

Kelly Punyko, Sophia Nevin, Helen Jensen and Marissa Wolff won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:51.33. The Oles tallied another first place finish as Linnea Rizzo (11:00.92) came in first in the 1000-yard freestyle. Wolff registered a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, recording a finals time of 1:58.77. Punyko (1:00.31) won another for the Oles in the 100-yard backstroke, beating the second-place finisher by over three seconds, while Jensen added another first-place finish in the 200-yard IM and Maya Knutson (2:18.04) finished in second.

Nevin (1:07.72) posted a first-place finish for St. Olaf in the 100-yard breaststroke and Jensen (2:16.24) won the 200-yard butterfly, followed by Rizzo (2:19.39) in second. Wolff won the 500-yard freestyle, posting a time of 5:24.33, followed by Rizzo (5:25.71) in second.  Olivia Prescott (53.51) registered a first place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, followed by Jensen (1:00.59) in second.

In the 1000-yard freestyle, Caitlin Croasdell finished with a time of 11:01.94 and finished second.  Another second-place finish came from Punyko (2:18.05) in the 200-yard backstroke and Croasdell (2:19.28) followed in third. Nevin (2:29.92) posted a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, less than one second behind the first-place finisher. St. Olaf posted a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay of Punyko, Croasdell, Rizzo and Knutson with a time of 1:43.53.

Shannaon Cucchiaro, Kelly Wichmann, Olivia Prescott and Solvay Metelmann finished third in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:00.86. Another third-place finish came from Maya Knutson in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.78.  Croasdell (1:04.70) placed third in the 100-yard backstroke and Cucchiaro (1:07.32) came in fifth. Wollf (55.70) added another third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, while Knutson (56.10) finished in fourth.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Prescott placed fourth with a time of 26.86. Ester Song competed in two diving competition and finished fourth in both, posting scores of 108.85 and 135.80. 

The Oles host an Alumni Meet on Saturday, Nov. 17, and return back to competition Thursday, Nov. 29 – Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Minnesota Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
