Women's basketball drops season opener against UW-Stout

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The St. Olaf College women's basketball team dropped its season-opener in a non-conference matchup to UW-Stout, 65-51, on Tuesday evening at Johnson Fieldhouse.

In her collegiate debut, K'Lynn Lewis led St. Olaf (0-1) with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists. but UW-Stout posted 27 points off of 26 Ole turnovers in the contest. 

 Junior Ella Skrien added 11 points and two rebounds while senior Makenna Ash registered 10 rebounds and eight points and sophomore Keegan Mulvihill posted six points and five rebounds.

The Oles held the lead in the first quarter until UW-Stout made a basket with two seconds remaining to make the score 11-10 in favor of the Blue Devils.

St. Olaf and UW-Stout traded baskets early in the second quarter, recording four lead changes with 7:04 left in the half.  The Blue Devils took the largest lead of the half with just under three minutes remaining as a basket from Bailey Diersen made the score 26-20.

UW-Stout stretched the lead in the third quarter at 39-27 with 6:25 remaining.  The Oles came back within seven to end the period after Mulvihill finished a layup, making the score 46-39.

Despite St. Olaf forcing seven Blue Devil turnovers in the fourth quarter, UW-Stout took its largest lead of the game at 63-48 with just under three minutes of play remaining and held it for the rest of the contest.

The Oles outrebounded the Blue Devils 42-34 in the game, including 20 offensive boards and 19 second chance points while the Blue Devils had nine.

St. Olaf is back in action as they travel to River Falls, Wis. for two non-conference contests against UW-River Falls on Friday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. and UW-Stout Saturday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m.
