RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The St. Olaf College women's basketball team fell to UW-Stout, 59-43, in their second contest at the UW-River Falls Tournament Saturday afternoon at Don Page Arena.
Junior
Ella Skrien posted a career-high 17 points, six rebounds and an assist, but St. Olaf (0-3) committed 24 turnovers while UW-Stout (1-0) scored 16 points off turnovers and committed only 12 turnovers.
Senior
Makenna Ash added nine points and 11 rebounds and sophomore
Britta Koenen collected four points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks.
The Oles jumped out to an early 9-3 lead after Skrien sank a three-pointer from Koenen, but the Blue Devils responded with a 8-2 run to end the quarter and even the score at 11-11.
St. Olaf scored back-to-back baskets early in the second quarter, regaining the lead, 16-13, after a basket behind the arc from Koenen with 6:35 remaining in the half. UW-Stout took its first lead of the game at 19-18 with 1:11 remaining in the half as Amber Fabeck sank a jumper.
Despite the Oles coming within two at 29-27 in the third quarter after a layup from sophomore
Keegan Mulvihill, the Blue Devils took a nine-point lead with less than a minute in the quarter.
First year
Sydney Beard found Skrien for another three-pointer as the Oles climbed within seven at 7:54 in the fourth quarter, but UW-Stout would remain on top for the rest of the game.
St. Olaf is back to action Tuesday, Nov. 20 in their home opener against Martin Luther beginning at 7 p.m. in Skoglund Center.
