NORTHFIELD, Minn. – An early second-period goal from Amelia Vosen was enough for nationally-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College to edge the St. Olaf College women's hockey team, 1-0, in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opener for both teams on Friday evening at Northfield Ice Arena.
Vosen scored 3:20 into the second period for Gustavus (2-0-1, 1-0-0 MIAC), which entered the game ranked No. 8 by USCHO.com and No. 10 by D3hockey.com in this week's national rankings. St. Olaf (0-3-0, 0-1-0 MIAC) limited the Gusties to a single goal for the third time in 43 all-time meetings, but two-time All-American Amanda DiNella and the Gusties made Vosen's goal hold up.
Gustavus committed seven minor penalties in the game, but killed off all seven St. Olaf power plays in the shutout. St. Olaf was whistled for four penalties and held the Gusties scoreless in their four tries on the power play.
Early in the second period, Vosen scored the game's lone goal, firing the puck home in a scrum in front of the net after a Gabby Slykas shot was knocked down by an Ole defenseman. The goal was Vosen's first of the season.
Junior

The two teams complete their weekend series on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. in St. Peter.
