Baseball: Oles top Northland, drop nightcap to Luther

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa - The St. Olaf baseball team closed a four-game weekend with an 8-3 win over Northland before dropping a 5-2 decision to Luther College on Sunday.

Ryan Torbenson's ninth-inning grand slam punctuated the Oles' 8-3 win over Northland in the first game of the day.

St. Olaf scored eight unanswered after giving up three runs in the first. 

Torbenson, who entered the game as a pinch runner in the sixth inning, finished 2-for-2 with two runs. Luke Dahl, Jake Mathison and Dylan Blake also had two hits for the Oles. 

Hunter Barber picked up the win, working four scoreless innings of relief.

Luther 5, St. Olaf 2
The Norse scored four times in the fifth inning and held off the Oles, who stranded 12 baserunners. 

St. Olaf collected seven hits, led by Jake Ossell's 2-for-4 effort, and walked seven times in the loss. 

Ole pitching allowed only one walk. Elliot Syverson went 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.
