AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The St. Olaf baseball team (6-5) fell 5-3 to Western New England University (8-3) on Saturday.
Down 4-1 with one out in the fifth inning, the Oles cut into the Golden Bear's lead with back-to-back RBI singles from
Matthew Muller and
Jake Mathison. A strikeout and a flyout followed, as the rally was cut short.
Jake Kawiecki (2-0) got the win for the Golden Bears. Kawiecki allowed three runs, one earned, on six hits and a walk through five innings pitched while striking out eight. Jeff Zebrowski earned the save while pitching two and two-third innings.
Kevin Johnson led the Golden Bears with two RBI. Johnson was 1-for-4, with his lone hit driving in a run as part of a three-run third inning for WNE.
Erik Lacaire and Joe Cassella each had 3-for-4 days for the Golden Bears, with each of them driving in a run.
TJ Rogers got on base thrice to lead the Oles, going 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored.
Next up for the Oles is a game against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Monday.
