Softball: Oles sweep Gusties as winning streak hits 10

ST. PETER, Minn. - The St. Olaf softball team (21-11, 11-5 MIAC) extended its winning streak to 10 games with a sweep of Gustavus Adolphus College (9-21, 5-11 MIAC) with wins of 4-3 and 1-0 in a doubleheader on Tuesday.

The Oles rallied for two runs in the seventh to take a 4-3 win over the Gusties in game one.

With runners on second and third and no outs in the top half of the inning, Abby Grismer drove in a run as a Gustie error left the Oles with no outs and runners on first and third.

Three batters later, with one out and the bases loaded, Alison Curry drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly. A scoreless bottom of the seventh resulted in the Oles' winning streak improving to nine games.

Julie Graf (14-9) earned the win, pitching five and one-third innings in relief. Graf allowed two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out nine.

Aly Freeman led the Gusties with two RBI. Kim Kurtzweg had two of the Gusties' four hits and scored two of their three runs.

The Oles winning streak hit 10 games with a shut out 1-0 win in the second game.

Jordan Melz drove in the lone run of the game in the top of the seventh. With two outs and a runner on third, Melz hit an RBI double to give the Oles the deciding run.

Graf (15-9) pitched five scoreless innings for her 15th win of the season, holding the Gusties to one hit and four walks while striking out seven.

Kate Arneson had two of the Oles' four hits in the game

Next up for the Oles is a doubleheader as St. Catherine University visits St. Olaf on Thursday.
