NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The St. Olaf softball team defeated Bethel University 6-5 in game one before dropping the second game 18-11, on Wednesday evening at Mabel Shirley Field.
With the split, St. Olaf is the No. 5 seed in the upcoming MIAC Playoffs. The Oles will play at No. 4 Augsburg University on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The MIAC expanded the MIAC Playoffs from four to six teams last week after weather compacted the regular season.
Game One: St. Olaf 6, Bethel 5
Emily Carr went 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs as the Oles won the opener. St. Olaf scored four in the first and two on Carr's triple in the fourth.
Rachel Niederkorn went all seven innings to get the win for the Oles. She struck out seven in the victory.
Game Two: Bethel 18, St. Olaf 11
The teams combined for 33 hits in the wild regular season finale.
Alison Curry and
Hannah Matthies homered for the Oles. Curry was 3-for-4 with four RBIs, Matthies 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs.
Abby Grismer added a 3-for-5 effort at the plate, while
Lucy Fuller,
Macy Vosbeek and
Ally Bode had two hits each for the Oles in the loss.
Mariah Uphof went 5-for-5 with four runs to lead Bethel.
