NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College volleyball team made it a 4-0 weekend at the St. Olaf-Carleton Invitational by sweeping both Simpson and Bethany Lutheran on Saturday morning at Carleton College's West Gym.

Megan Grimes recorded double-digit kills in both matches for St. Olaf (4-0), finishing the day with 21 kills, while first-year setter
Brynne Gray tallied 70 assists over the six sets. Grimes and junior
Lauren Rewers each had 11 kills against Simpson (0-3) in the first match of the day. Grimes added 10 kills later in the morning against Bethany Lutheran (1-2), as the Oles hit .356 as a team to start the season 4-0 for the third-straight season.

To start the morning, St. Olaf limited Simpson to a .036 attack percentage and got 11-kill efforts from Rewers and Grimes to post a 25-19, 25-21, 25-18 victory over the Storm. Gray recorded 32 assists over the three sets, while sophomore
Summer Reid paced the Oles with 10 digs and three aces.
After trailing 19-18, St. Olaf rattled off the final seven points of the set to snatch the opening set from Simpson. Grimes and first-year
Katelyn Lannom each had a kill and combined for a block during the 7-0 close to the set and junior
Haley Langeslag ended the set with an ace to give the Oles the opener, 25-19.
Midway through the second, the Oles turned a 10-8 deficit into a 12-10 lead with a 4-0 run that included a pair of kills from senior
Alison Curry and a block by Curry and Rewers. Simpson kept the set close, trailing just 22-21, before St. Olaf again finished the set strong by winning the final three points. Lannom had back-to-back kills to bring up set point and Grimes finished off the second set with her seventh kill of the match.
St. Olaf carried the run to end the second into the start of the third, racing out to a 7-1 lead by winning seven-straight points. Six of the seven consecutive points came on Reid's serve, with the sophomore accounting for two aces early on. The Storm got within four, 14-10, but could get no closer, as Rewers and Grimes each had four kills in the final set.

St. Olaf hit a season-high .356 as a team in the second match to cruise to a 25-12, 25-14, 25-16 victory over Bethany Lutheran. In addition to Grimes' 10 kills, Reid and Lannom each posted eight, while Curry had seven kills on seven swings.
Gray was at the center of the balanced offensive attack, tallying 38 assists. Defensively, Langeslag added a season-high 20 digs and sophomore
Morgan Marxer was in on five blocks to help the Oles hold the Vikings to a .033 hitting clip in the sweep.
St. Olaf broke open the first set by winning 11-of-13 points after trailing 6-4 to go ahead, 15-8. Late in the set, the Oles won seven-straight points on the serve of sophomore
Jordan Melz to open up a 23-10 cushion. Lannom had five kills on seven swings in the set, as the Oles hit .423 with 14 kills and just three errors.
The Oles used runs of 5-0 and 4-0 midway through the second set to take an 18-10 advantage behind the serves of Curry and Gray on their way to a 25-14 set win. Marxer had four kills in the second set alone and Curry made it seven kills on seven swings through two sets with three of her own.
In the third, the Oles strung together seven consecutive points to take a 9-3 lead, with Grimes contributing two kills and a block with Lannom in the spurt. St. Olaf stretched its lead to as many as 12 at 18-6 to finish off its third sweep of the opening weekend.
Next up for St. Olaf is a trip to St. Paul to face Northwestern (Minn.) on Wednesday, Sept. 5 in a 7 p.m. start.
