Kellis Brandt of the St. Olaf College women's tennis team advanced to the round of 32 in singles in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships and sophomores
Greta Prokosch and
Emily Otteson won their singles draws at the Gustie Fall Invite this weekend.
Brandt reached the round of 32 with back-to-back wins on Friday, before falling 6-2, 7-5 to UW-Whitewater's Sabrina Palavra on Saturday. The senior won her first-round match 6-1, 7-5 against Colleen Lois of Saint Mary's before advancing to the round of 32 via default.

Ellie Bergstrand and sophomore
Sabrina Barboza also competed in the main draw of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. Barboza won her first-round match 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 against UW-La Crosse's Maura Anderson before going down to fourth-seeded Sonya Romanenko of Carleton, who reached the quarterfinals. Bergstrand dropped a tight three-setter to Cornell's Abbey Nelson by a 4-6, 7-6 (8), 6-4 score.
In the doubles draw of the ITA Midwest Regional Championship, Barboza and Otteson won two matches to advance to the round of 16 before bowing out 8-5 to Molly Stewart/Hannah Zevenbergen of UW-Eau Claire. The duo defeated Abbey Nelson/Emmaline Fievet of Cornell 8-2 in the opening round and Lauren French/Eliza Sundermann of Coe, the number 11-seeded pairing, 8-3 in the second round.
Brandt and Bergstrand dropped their opening-round doubles match 8-6 to Natasha Hood/Sara Benoy of St. Thomas.
Prokosch, Otteson and fellow sophomore
Ella Hagopian all competed in 16-player brackets in the Gustie Fall Invite in singles. Prokosch dropped just eight games in four matches to win her bracket, while Otteson edged UW-Whitewater's Madalyn Bigelow in a super tiebreaker to claim her bracket. Hagopian posted a first-round 8-2 win over Abbey Westrum of Concordia (Minn.), but lost to Zevenbergen, the eventual champion, in straight sets in her next match.
Prokosch won her first-round match with Lexi Johnson of Concordia (Minn.) 8-1 before posting three consecutive straight-set wins. After a 6-1, 6-3 win over Coe's Ella White in the second round, the sophomore cruised past Emily White of Northwestern (Minn.) 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinals and Gustavus' Kjorte Harra 6-0, 6-2 in the final.
Otteson did not lose a game in her first two rounds, defeating Mia Andrae of Concordia (Wis.) 8-0 and Carrie Voss of Concordia (Minn.) 6-0, 6-0. In the semifinals, she took out St. Norbert's Claire Hetzel 6-4, 6-1 to advance to face Bigelow in the championship match. Otteson won the first set 6-2 before Bigelow took the second by the same score, but Otteson claimed the super tiebreaker 10-5 to secure the victory.
Prokosch and Hagopian won their first-round doubles match in the Gustie Fall Invite 8-2 against the Northwestern (Minn.) pairing of Ashlyn Hughes/Sierra Kargbo, but lost a tiebreaker in their second match to Lily Hamilton/Sara Amano of Gustavus.
St. Olaf takes on Minnesota State University on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 3:30 p.m. in Mankato.
