NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Junior
Mackenzie Schoustra had a hand in all three goals for the St. Olaf College women's soccer team in a 3-0 victory over visiting Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) contest on Saturday afternoon at Rolf Mellby Field.
Schoustra logged her second-straight two-goal game and assisted on the other goal for St. Olaf (6-2-1, 4-1-0 MIAC), which won its third-straight conference game with the win over Hamline (3-6-1, 1-4-0 MIAC). The two-goal performance was the third of the season for Schoustra, who has 20 points on eight goals and four assists in nine games this fall.
Less than 10 minutes into the game, Schoustra got the scoring started, collecting a ball up the right channel from
Annalise Neiberger before cutting inside on her left foot and unleashing a shot into the lower-right corner of the net.
Hamline nearly tied the game in the 24th minute when Siri Parker hit a shot from over 30 yards out that rang off the cross bar. The Pipers generated just four shots on goal in the game, as the Oles recorded their fourth shutout of the season.
Carrying a 1-0 lead late in the first half, St. Olaf scored twice in the final 5:02 of the opening half to take a commanding 3-0 lead at the break. In the 40th minute, Schoustra found Lecy from the top of the box and Lecy finished over a rushing Dani Wright in a 1-on-1 for her second goal of the season.
With just 15 seconds remaining in the half, Schoustra capped the three-goal first half, scoring off a pass in behind from first-year
Greta Anderson. Anderson threaded the ball through to Schoustra, who found the right side of the net from the left side of the box to give Anderson her first collegiate assist.
Clear-cut chances were few and far between in the second half, as St. Olaf kept its three-goal lead intact. Sophomore goalkeeper
Brynne Davis had just one save to make in the first 67:39 of the game to pick up the victory, while sophomore
Rachel Nelson made three stops over the final 22:21.
St. Olaf outshot Hamline 18-9 in the game, including a 13-4 advantage in shots on goal. Dani Wright made 10 saves in the loss for Hamline.
