DUBUQUE, Iowa – In its fourth-straight one-goal game to start the season, the St. Olaf College men's soccer team was edged 1-0 by Loras College on the road on Saturday afternoon at Rock Bowl.

Marcus Singleton's first goal of the season in the 66th minute was all Loras (2-0-0) needed in the game, as the Duhawks won their second-straight 1-0 game to begin their season. The Duhawks, who were receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Preseason Poll, limited St. Olaf (1-3-0) to a pair of shots on goal in the game.

In addition to being St. Olaf's fourth consecutive game decided by one goal to start the season, the one-goal game was the fourth in five meetings between the two schools. Loras has won all five meetings in the series by a combined six goals, with all five meetings coming since 2007.

Singleton broke the deadlock and provided the only goal the Duhawks would need in the 66th minute, scoring off an assist from Ryan Pacholski. Singleton's goal came less than two minutes after he entered the game as a substitute.

Senior goalkeeper Ben Westermeyer made eight saves in the loss for the Oles, while counterpart Jesse Buffington stopped both shots on goal he faced for Loras. The Duhawks took 14 of the game's 18 shots, including nine of the 11 shots on goal, in a game that featured 39 combined fouls.

St. Olaf begins Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play on Wednesday, Sept. 12 with a trip to Bethel University for a 4 p.m. contest.
