NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Katie Carlson and Leah Schwartzman had four points apiece to lead No. 7/8 Hamline University to an 8-0 victory over the St. Olaf College women's hockey team on Saturday night at St. Olaf Ice Arena.
Carlson recorded two goals and two assists, while Schwartzman added one goal and three assists for Hamline (13-1-2, 7-1-1 MIAC), which extended its unbeaten streak to 10-straight games (8-0-2). Junior goaltender
Sam Klemann made a season-high 41 saves in the loss for St. Olaf (0-13-2, 0-7-2 MIAC).
Carlson scored the lone goal of the first period at 8:16, as Klemann stopped 16 of the 17 shots she faced in the opening period to keep the margin at 1-0. Junior
Johanna Glaaser had a chance to put the Oles on top early on, but fired wide of the goal after racing in behind the Hamline defense.
The Pipers added two goals in the second, with Rae Robert scoring on the power play at 3:49 and Schwartzman scoring from Carlson at 17:19.
In the third, Hamline tacked on three more goals, including two power-play tallies. The Pipers entered the night with the second-best power play in Division III (31.3 percent) and went 3-for-8 in the game.
After Olivia Arkell made it 3-0 at 2:24, Carlson set up Molly Garin on the power play at 5:44 to bring the Hamline lead to 4-0. Jordan Hansen, Carlson and Bre Simon, the nation's leading scorer in Division III, added goals in the final nine minutes.
Klemann totaled 34 saves over the first two periods for the Oles and added seven more in the first 5:44 of the third, before first year
Grace Boswell-Healey stopped 9-of-12 shots over the final 14:16.
The two teams finish their series on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. at TRIA Rink in St. Paul.
