Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Cohen scores for women's hockey in loss at No. 7/8 Hamline

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Senior Margeaux Cohen gave the St. Olaf College women's hockey team an early lead, but No. 7/8 Hamline University scored the game's final five goals to defeat the Oles, 5-1, on Saturday at TRIA Rink.

Cohen scored her second goal of the season at 7:44 of the opening period for St. Olaf (0-14-2, 0-8-2 MIAC) before Hamline (14-1-2, 8-1-1 MIAC) tied the game later in the period. The Pipers, who got a hat trick from Molly Garin, added two goals in each of the final two periods to stretch their unbeaten streak to 11-straight games (9-0-2), the second-longest active streak in Division III women's hockey.

After being named to the D3hockey.com Women's Team of the Week earlier in the week, first year Jackie LaFaive picked up the lone assist on Cohen's goal inside the first eight minutes, giving her five points in the last five games.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Pellicci tallied a season-high 43 saves in net for the Oles, while McKenna Hulslander earned the victory for the Pipers with nine stops.

Garin scored her first goal of the afternoon at 16:13 of the first period to cancel out Cohen's opener. Bre Simon, Division III's leading scorer in terms of points, netted the eventual game-winning goal at 5:35 of the second before Garin got her second at 9:47 to put Hamline ahead by two, 3-1, after two.

Julia Buffalini made it a 4-1 game at 2:23 of the third and Garin completed her hat trick at 13:47 of the third to close the scoring.

St. Olaf hosts No. 10 UW-Eau Claire on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. at St. Olaf Ice Arena. The Blugolds topped the Oles in a high-scoring affair, 7-4, on Jan. 8 in Eau Claire.
