No. 9 UW-Eau Claire blanks women's hockey

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Visiting No. 9 UW-Eau Claire got goals from four different skaters to defeat the St. Olaf College women's hockey team, 4-0, in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday night at St. Olaf Ice Arena.

UW-Eau Claire (14-4-2) scored twice in each of the first two periods on its way to completing the regular-season sweep of St. Olaf (0-15-2) after winning, 7-4, in Eau Claire two weeks ago. First year Grace Boswell-Healey made 32 saves in her first-career start in net for the Oles.

The Blugolds got off to a fast start, scoring twice in the first 6:32 of the game to take control. Ella Lerino got the scoring started at 4:17 of the opening period and Courtney Wittig doubled the visitors' lead 2:15 later. Between the UW-Eau Claire goals, junior Johanna Glaaser had an opportunity to tie the game, leading a 2-on-1 up the right side with a trailing teammate, but Erin Connolly made the save.

Early in the second, senior Xandi Swedberg generated a scoring chance for herself with a takeaway in the offensive end, but Connolly again was on hand to make the stop. Connolly recorded a 12-save shutout for the Blugolds.

Lexi Wilson extended UW-Eau Claire's lead to 3-0 at 7:07 of the second and Holly Turnbull capped the scoring with a power-play goal with 27 seconds left in the period. The Blugolds committed four penalties in the third period, but the Oles were unable to convert, although two of the power plays were abbreviated due to two UW-Eau Claire penalties in the final 1:05.

St. Olaf travels to Augsburg University to begin its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) series with the Auggies on Friday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m.
