MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Senior
Kalli McCullen scored her second goal of the season for the St. Olaf College women's hockey team in a 6-1 defeat at Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opponent Augsburg University on Friday night at Ed Saugestad Rink.
Augsburg (9-6-3, 6-3-2 MIAC) took a 2-0 lead into the second period before McCullen made it a one-goal game early in the second for St. Olaf (0-16-2, 0-9-2 MIAC). The Auggies, however, scored twice in the remainder of the second and twice in the third to pick up the victory.
With the Oles trailing 2-0 to first period goals from Lanie Lobdell and Emily Ach, McCullen provided the St. Olaf's lone goal of the night at 5:39 of the second to cut the Augsburg lead in half. Sophomore
Carolyn Carpenter earned her first assist of the season on McCullen's second of the year.
The Auggies stretched their lead to 4-1 after two periods on goals from Bailey Beane and Mikayla Jones in the space of 2:13 midway through the second period. In the third, Ach got her second of the night at 9:53 before Kayla Murray capped the scoring at 15:03.
Augsburg outshot St. Olaf by a 38-15 margin in the game. Junior
Sam Klemann recorded 32 saves in net for the Oles for her eighth game of the season with at least 30 stops. Annie Juergens saved 14 of the 15 shots she faced for the Auggies.
The same two teams wrap up their weekend series on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. at St. Olaf Ice Arena.
