Men's swimming and diving first at Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. –  John Loepfe placed first in four different events and Abraham Eyman Casey and Sjon Greseth each placed first in three different events, as they led the St. Olaf College men's swimming and diving team to a first-place finish at the in a triangular against host Macalester College and Hamline University on Saturday afternoon.

Loepfe won the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.14), the 50-yard freestyle (22.59) and the 100-yard butterfly (52.73). He also led off a relay of Loepfe, Cal Gergen, Xander Quezada and Ian Kretzmann that won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:31.84

St. Olaf won the 200-yard medley relay, with a relay of Eyman Casey, Kretzmann, Marcel Hones and Greseth with a time of 1:40.11. Eyman Casey added two more first-place finishes, in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.21 and the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:57.35.

Along with being first in the 200-yard medley relay, Greseth added two more first-place finishes, as he completed the 400-yard IM (4:26.60) in first and the 500-yard freestyle in first (4:56.26). Dima Pelutis (5:10.72) followed in third in the 500-yard freestyle.

Hones won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:01.55 and was second in the butterfly (52.85).

Greseth slotted a second-place finish for the Oles in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:07.73 and Zach McCarty (10:41.43) followed in third. Kretzmann (1:04.93) placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke and Quezada (1:06.77) collected a third-place finish.

Another second-place finish came from Gergen, as he recorded a time of 50.96 in the 100-yard freestyle, while Kretzmann (51.69) was third. McCarty registered a time of 2:26.31 in the 200-yard breaststroke, good for a second-place finish.

St. Olaf also got a third-place performance from McCarty, who finished with a time of 4:45.65 in the 400-yard IM, and DQ Tong (4:49.02) was fourth. A relay of Mitch Brachmann, Quezada, Tong, and Gergen placed fourth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:48.15.  Hones, Brachmann, McCarty and Eyman Casey (1:33.97) were third in the 200-yard freestyle relay, and another third-place finish came from Gergen (58.27) in the 100-yard backstroke.

The Oles are back to action on Saturday, January 26, as they host Carleton and celebrate Senior Day, with competition beginning at 11 a.m.
