Oles set for MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's and women's swimming and diving teams will compete at the four-day Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Swimming & Diving Championships held Wednesday through Saturday at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.

The conference meet will begin on Wednesday evening with a preliminary round of the men's one-meter diving at 6 p.m., followed by finals of that event, plus the men's and women's 200-yard medley and 800-yard freestyle relays. The finals session will start at 7:30 p.m. on opening night. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday's schedules will consist of morning prelim sessions at 10:30 a.m. and evening championship sessions at 6:30 p.m.

All tickets will once again be sold and purchased online via HomeTown Ticketing. There will not be cash sales at the venue; however, spectators can purchase tickets using a mobile device at any time, including while at the venue. "All-session" tickets will grant admission to all seven sessions of the Championships. Adult passes are $73, and student passes are $31. (Note: $3 HomeTown Ticketing fee included; additional convenience and credit card fees will be added during checkout.) Children ages five and under do not require a ticket. Those eligible for student tickets include individuals currently enrolled in college, high school, middle school, and elementary school. Student ID is required where applicable.

Single-session tickets are also available for purchase online only. Single-session adult tickets are $12 each, while student tickets are $6. (Note: additional HomeTown Ticketing convenience and credit card fees will be added during checkout). Children ages five and under do not require a ticket.

As a reminder, glass is strictly prohibited inside the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. Please do not bring any glass water bottles or vases into the venue.

All sessions of the championships will be streamed free of charge on the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center's YouTube channel. Live results will also be updated online at the completion of each event.

Coming off a third-place finish last season, the St. Olaf women enter the MIAC Championships with 17 top-six seeds in individual events and five top-two seeds in the relays. The Oles' hold the top seed times in the 400-yard medley relay (3:55.43), 200-yard freestyle relay (1:37.10), and 400-yard freestyle relay (1:37.10) and are second in the 200-yard medley relay (3:32.82) and 800-yard freestyle relay (7:54.13).

Senior Paige Steenblock is the No. 1 seed in the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.58), 400-yard individual medley (4:34.14), and 200-yard breaststroke (2:25.08). She is a three-time All-MIAC honoree in all three of those event, the two-time defending conference champion in the 400 IM, and will look to defend her title in the 200 IM.

Sophomore Olivia Small is the top seed in the 100-yard backstroke (57.04) and 200-yard backstroke (2:05.95) after winning the conference title in the 200 back and finishing second in the 100 back as a first year. Junior Katie Homme holds top-two seeds in the 200-yard freestyle (1st, 1:55.36), 50-yard freestyle (2nd, 23.73), and 100-yard freestyle (2nd, 51.63) after winning MIAC titles in the 50 and 100 freestyles last season.

Sophomore McKenna Hultgren is the No. 2 seed in the 100-yard butterfly (59.49) and 200-yard butterfly (2:12.16), coming off a third-place finish last season in the 200 fly. St. Olaf also had six women's diver qualify on the one-meter board and four on the three-meter board.

After finishing fifth last season, the St. Olaf men have nine top-five seeds individually and three top-three relays entering the meet. The Oles are seeded second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:35.09) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:11.33), while sitting third in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:26.60).

Senior Aiden Yung heads to the meet with the top seed in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:05.93), the No. 3 seed in the 200-yard individual medley (1:57.22), and the No. 4 seed in the 400-yard individual medley (4:15.71). Yung is a two-time top-four finisher in the 400 IM and was in the top five in the other two events last season.

Senior Nick Starcevich is the No. 2 seed in the 50-yard freestyle (21.21), 100-yard freestyle (47.27), and 100-yard breaststroke (58.72) after finishing as the conference runner-up in the 50 and 100 freestyles last season. Junior Jack Homme also holds top five seeds in the 50-yard freestyle (5th, 21.66), 100-yard butterfly (4th, 51.74), and 100-yard freestyle (5th, 47.59).
