Women's swimming and diving wins triangular at Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's swimming and diving team won 10 events to top host Macalester College and Hamline University in a triangular meet on Saturday.
 
Sophomore Marissa Wolff, sophomore Maya Knutson and junior Helen Jensen each won a pair of individual events and were each part of a winning relay for St. Olaf. Sophomores Kelly Wichmann and Sophia Nevin also recorded individual event victories and swam on the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay.
 
Wolff posted first-place finishes in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:46.98) and 500-yard freestyle (5:20.15) for the Oles. Knutson won both the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.35) and 400-yard individual medley (4:46.97), while Jensen was victorious in the 100-yard freestyle (56.65) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.56).
 
Wichmann touched first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:39.63), with Nevin placing first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.25). St. Olaf also had first-place relays, as Kelly Punyko, Nevin, Jensen and Knutson won the 200-yard medley relay (1:52.65) and Punyko, Wichmann, Nevin and Wolff were victorious in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:44.21).
 
Senior Linnea Rizzo recorded three second-place performances on the afternoon, placing second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:04.15), 200-yard breaststroke (2:40.93) and 400-yard individual medley (4:48.26).
 
Punyko was second in both the 100-yard (1:00.23) and 200-yard (2:12.61) backstrokes, while senior Erin Martin finished second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:30.14) and 500-yard freestyle (5:44.70).
 
Wichmann (100-yard breaststroke, 1:13.14), Wolff (50-yard freestyle, 25:35) and Nevin (100-yard butterfly, 1:04.80) also posted second-place showings.
 
Junior Caitlin Croasdell, sophomore Olivia Jones and Knutson each added third-place finishes for the Oles. Croasdell was third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.91), Jones was third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:33.04) and Knutson took third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:14.93). The relay of first year Shannon Cucchiaro, Jones, Croasdell and Rizzo was third in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:48.96).
 
St. Olaf hosts Carleton College on Senior Day on Saturday, Jan. 26, starting at 11 a.m. at the Skoglund Center Natatorium.
